Cutting tool consumption grew yearly and monthly in August
August U.S. cutting tool consumption totaled $223.47 million according to the U.S. Cutting Tool Institute (USCTI) and AMT – The Association For Manufacturing Technology. This total, as reported by companies participating in the Cutting Tool Market Report collaboration, was up 11.2 percent from July’s $200.97 million and up 13.9 percent when compared with the $196.23 million reported for August 2017. With a year-to-date total of $1.636 billion, 2018 is up 12.0 percent when compared with 2017.  (more)
U.S. Manufacturing Technology Orders for August 2018

Manufacturing technology orders posted an unexpected surge in August, climbing 28 percent over August 2017 and bringing the year-to-date growth rate to 23 percent for 2018. The latest U.S. Manufacturing Technology Orders Report from AMT – The Association For Manufacturing Technology showed that orders totaled $501 million for the month, up 26 percent from July and the largest August order level in the USMTO program’s history.

Manufacturing technology orders for July were up 20 percent from July 2017, yielding a year-to-date total of $2.96 billion for 2018, up 22 percent from the same period in 2017. The latest U.S. Manufacturing Technology Orders Report from AMT – The Association For Manufacturing Technology showed that orders totaled $399 million for the month, down a modest 3 percent compared to June totals, reflecting the start of the typical summer slowdown.

Cutting Tool Consumption up 10.1 Percent in 2018
May U.S. cutting tool consumption totaled $215.13 million according to the U.S. Cutting Tool Institute (USCTI) and AMT – The Association For Manufacturing Technology. This total, as reported by companies participating in the Cutting Tool Market Report collaboration, was up 5.6 percent from April’s $203.68 million and up 12.1 percent when compared with the $191.93 million reported for May 2017. With a year-to-date total of $999.82 million, 2018 is up 10.1 percent when compared with 2017.  (more)
MTConnect® Technical Advisory Group re-established as Standards Committee
McLean, Va. …  The MTConnect Institute has been accepted as an accredited standards developer under ANSI. To better align MTConnect procedures with ANSI, the Technical Advisory Group (TAG) has been re-established as the "Standards Committee." The Standards Committee is responsible for developing and approving the MTConnect standard, a function previously performed by the TAG.

ANSI grants Standards Developer approval to MTConnect Institute
McLean, Va. -- The MTConnect Institute has been approved as an American National Standards Institute (ANSI)-accredited Standards Developer, elevating MTConnect's status in the national and international standards communities. The move comes in response to increased interest in the MTConnect standard from industry and significant growth in membership in the MTConnect Institute. This accreditation indicates that the Institute's standard development procedures adhere to ANSI's Essential Requirements for due process, which include openness, coordination and harmonization, and compliance with normative policies and procedures, among others.
