Douglas Woods

Title: AMT President

Douglas K. Woods joined AMT as its President in April 2009. Mr. Woods has spearheaded the Manufacturing Mandate initiative on behalf of the Association to bring attention to the need to incentivize innovation and R&D in new products and manufacturing technologies, improve global competitiveness, and build a better educated and trained “Smartforce.”

He also has been instrumental in building a better understanding between manufacturing technology builders and distributors that has led to the merger between AMT and AMTDA – The American Machine Tool Distributors’ Association, and marks the beginning of a more powerful voice for the industry and an unparalleled scope of benefits for AMT’s members.

Prior to that, he held a number of executive positions at several machine tool companies, including President and CEO of Liberty Precision Industries, and President of Parlec Incorporated. He also held key management positions at Alliance Tool Corporation and its parent company, Cross & Trecker.

Mr. Woods was AMT’s chairman of the Board of Directors in 2005-2006 and served on its Board of Directors from 2000-2008. Currently, he serves on the Board of Directors for the National Center for Defense Manufacturing & Machining and the NAM Coalition of Manufacturing Associations. He was also active in the National Tooling & Machining Association and in 1994 was named Ernst & Young’s Entrepreneur of the Year for Manufacturing Turnarounds for the Upstate New York area.

AMT - The Association For Manufacturing Technology (founded in 1902 as the National Machine Tool Builders' Association) supports and promotes the U.S. manufacturing technology industry. The association provides U.S. builders of manufacturing systems with the latest information on technical developments, trade and marketing opportunities, and economic issues. It also gathers and disseminates information about world markets, promotes its members' products in those markets, and acts as a representative on manufacturing technology matters to governments and trade organizations throughout the world.
