President Signs Free Trade Agreements with Korea, Colombia and Panama

In a rare moment of bipartisan cooperation, the President signed the Korea, Colombia and Panama Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) approved by Congress ealier this month. The FTAs were originally negotiated in 2006 and 2007 during George W. Bush's Administration, but lacked the support on Capitol Hill to approve them until now. A deal on renewing Trade Adjustment Assistance paved the wave for FTA approval.

December 6, 2006 - The U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO) has issued the results of its study on export controls and export controlled information.  They suggest that export controlled information (rather than physical goods) may not be sufficiently protected.  GAO recommends that the Commerce and State Departments assess this vulnerability and improve guidance for protecting export-controlled information at companies. April Trade Deficit Put at $57 Billion
