08 November 2009House Passes Health Care Overhaul by a 220-215 VoteNovember 8, 2009 - The House passed the AMT-opposed "Affordable Health Care for America Act" (H.R. 3962) by a 220-215 vote. The Hill newspaper reports that that the House passed its $1 trillion healthcare overhaul late Saturday with only two votes to spare, becoming the first chamber to vote on such a significant expansion of healthcare since Congress passed Medicare in 1965. Only one Republican voted for the bill, while 39 Democrats opposed it. (more) |

These individuals also have special enrollment rights under COBRA. Employers are required to notify eligible individuals of their COBRA rights. If enacted, this bill would reverse 70+ years of American labor law by forcing companies to recognize a union if a majority of workers signs cards indicating their desire to unionize. The current process, which requires a secret ballot election in order to install a union, would be eliminated by this proposal, thus opening employees up to a level of union intimidation unprecedented in the modern era.AMT is a member of CDW and serves on its Lobbying Committee.
