UI Labs is designed to transform entire industries according to UI Labs CEO Carolyn Nowinski Collens. IMTSTV caught up with her at the 2015 Hannover Messe Press Conference in Chicago to get the latest on UI Labs’ plans to help advance emerging digital manufacturing technology through unique and innovative collaboration.

Paving the way for new digital technologies is only the beginning for UI Labs. By cultivating unique partnerships between manufacturers, tech companies, universities and startups, UI Labs serves as a platform for innovators to use digital manufacturing technology to solve tangible problems. With a state-of-the-art manufacturing lab — the Digital Manufacturing and Design Innovation Institute (DMDII) – collaborators can come together to demonstrate existing technologies and their applications, as well as test new and emerging technologies in a safe environment before they reach shop floor integration. As a member of the National Network of Manufacturing Innovation (NNMI), the DMDII is focused on advancing technology and workforce in American manufacturing to help the United States be competitive on a global scale.

UI Labs is breaking down the barrier to getting involved with these innovative projects. After a project is posted on the DMDII website, they follow up with a meeting where manufacturers, tech companies, universities and startups that want to be involved can come to the manufacturing lab to meet fellow collaborators and form teams. UI Labs provides leveraged funding for these projects so that price point isn’t a barrier to getting involved.
