Department of Energy Funding Opportunities

The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act Program Plan for the Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy outlines how the Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE) will manage the $16.8 billion provided in the American Reinvestment and Recovery Act (Recovery Act). The Recovery Act appropriated $15.55 billion for 10 distinct EERE programs, including five new programs. The remaining $1.25 billion was provided for other EERE R&D activities.

The Solar Energy Technologies Program focuses on developing cost-effective solar energy technologies. More than $170 million is spent each year in research and development on photovoltaics (PV) and concentrating solar power (CSP). The Solar Energy Technologies Program has a link to “Financial Opportunities” that posts current and past funding opportunities for all program areas, including research and development, market transformation, and systems integration projects.

The Wind and Hydropower Technologies Program works with U.S. manufacturers to develop advanced blade designs, fabrication techniques, and automation processes that will enable wind turbines to capture more energy and help blade manufacturers increase their component production capabilities. This technologies program also has a link to “Financial Opportunities” with resources listed that include opportunities from DOE and the Office of EERE, specific opportunities for small businesses, and additional opportunities from DOE, DOE's national laboratories, and other agencies.

The Department of Energy’s Recovery website provides links to finding resources by state as well as various ways to track DOE spending.

DOE and the U.S. Department of the Treasury have launched a new program to award $2.3 billion in tax credits to manufacturers of equipment for clean energy systems. The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act authorized the Treasury Department to provide developers with an investment tax credit of 30% percent for facilities that manufacture particular types of energy equipment.
