First Quarter 2009 Industrial Lasers Down 38 Percent from Fourth Quarter 2008
Orders of industrial laser equipment and systems in first quarter 2009 are reported at $58.8 million, a decrease of 38.2 percent from fourth quarter 2008, according to AMT - The Association For Manufacturing Technology. Orders within North America totaled $45.9 million, while exports amounted to approximately $12.9 million. By dollar value, laser systems consisting of a source and workstation made up 87.9 percent of orders. Measured by units, systems accounted for 61.1 percent of units.
First quarter 2009 figures are based on actual data reported by companies voluntarily participating in the Laser Market Data Survey. Growth is based on revised data for prior quarters.
The web-based benchmarking survey tracks and reports actual order data from North American manufacturers and suppliers of industrial lasers including:
- complete industrial laser machines (workstations and laser source),
- beam delivery only (workstations), and
- source only.
