TechSolve, formerly the Institute of Advanced Manufacturing Sciences (IAMS), was founded on December 29, 1982 as part of a regional effort to improve the competitiveness of manufacturing and related businesses. Those credited with this initiative include the City of Cincinnati, the Greater Cincinnati Chamber of Commerce, The University of Cincinnati, and large local industry.
In 1984, TechSolve became one of the Ohio Edison Technology Centers through the Ohio Department of Development. In 1991, Metcut Research Inc.'s Machinability Data Center joined TechSolve. In 1994, TechSolve began participating in the National Institute of Standards and Technology's Manufacturing Extension Partnership (NIST MEP).
