Steven A. Thiry has joined AMT-The Association For Manufacturing Technology as Vice President-Business Development.  He brings to the position more than 25 years of experience in industrial management, sales and marketing for two major manufacturing firms.

He also has extensive international experience, having managed businesses in Europe, Asia and the Americas.

“Steve brings a wealth of global business experience to AMT,” says John B. Byrd III, AMT President.  “He will play an important role in developing new and innovative programs that assist the membership as they strive to create a competitive advantage in a global market.”

At AMT, Thiry will head the department responsible for marketing and business development assistance to members, in both domestic and international markets.  AMT’s international facilities, including three Representative Offices in China, the Shanghai Technology & Service Center, and the Technical Center and office in Mexico, will report to him.

Thiry began his manufacturing career in sales with the Professional Tools Group of Ingersoll-Rand Co.  Over the next 21 years he moved into sales training, product management and business unit management for a number of the company’s industrial products.  He managed a product development team that launched a line of ergonomic assembly automation tools, and he was awarded a patent for these products.  He relocated to Tokyo and managed extensive manufacturing, sales and distribution operations throughout Asia.  He then moved to Paris and managed the company’s facilities in both Western and Eastern Europe.

In 2000, Thiry joined the Crane Co. and led the acquisition and integration of a Swedish-owned subsidiary with manufacturing operations in the U.K., Germany, Brazil and India.  He evaluated acquisition targets in a number of countries and later managed the company’s global pump business.

He is a graduate of St. Norbert College and has a Master’s degree in Business Administration from Rutgers University.  Thiry and his wife Chris have two children and will relocate to the Washington, D.C., area.

AMT (founded in 1902 as the National Machine Tool Builders' Association) supports and promotes the U.S. machine tool industry.  The association provides U.S. builders of manufacturing systems with the latest information on technical developments, training methods, trade and marketing opportunities, and economic issues.  It also gathers and disseminates information about world markets, promotes its members' products in those markets, and acts as a representative on manufacturing technology matters to governments and trade organizations throughout the world.
