Elizabeth Nicolson joins AMT as Government Relations Director

Elizabeth S. Nicolson has joined AMT-The Association For Manufacturing Technology as a Government Relations Director. She joins the Association’s five-person Government Relations Department which lobbies Congress and the Administration on issues of importance to the manufacturing technology industry, supporting legislative and regulatory proposals that would help the industry and its member companies.

Nicolson has 21 years of experience on Capitol Hill, having served on the staffs of five members of the U.S. House of Representatives. Most recently she was Chief of Staff for Congressman Mark Foley (R-FL) and before that served as Senior Legislative Assistant for Congressman Richard Zimmer (R-NJ). In these positions she worked on a wide variety of issues, with special emphasis on the House Ways and Means Committee, where she dealt with tax and trade issues as well as Medicare and welfare reform.

Prior to these posts she served as Press Secretary for three members of the U.S. House of Representatives over a nine year period. Earlier she was a news reporter and editor for several newspapers in Vermont.

“We are very lucky to have someone with Liz Nicolson’s skills and experience join us,” said Dr. Paul Freedenberg, AMT Vice President-Government Relations. “I am confident that she will add a great deal to our association.”

Nicolson has a bachelor’s degree in communications from Loyola University in New Orleans. She lives in Alexandria, Virginia with her husband and two teen-age sons.

AMT (founded in 1902 as the National Machine Tool Builders' Association) supports and promotes the U.S. machine tool industry. The association provides U.S. builders of manufacturing systems with the latest information on technical developments, trade and marketing opportunities, and economic issues. It also gathers and disseminates information about world markets, promotes its members' products in those markets, and acts as a representative on manufacturing technology matters to governments and trade organizations throughout the world.
