AMT to open Technical Centre in India
AMT’s new Chennai Technology and Service Centre (CTC) will be located in Chennai (formerly called Madras), in the business-friendly south Indian state of Tamil Nadu. The fast growing Chennai area has good logistical connections to the rest of the country, and a well-educated workforce. Many manufacturers are expanding their operations there.
Arun Mahajan has been hired as the Centre’s General Manager, and is now actively working to complete the registration of AMT’s Indian Branch Office and find a suitable location for the Centre. Mr. Mahajan most recently worked as a Regional Manager for Francis Klein Group, a major national machine tool agent/manufacturer in India. He has 13 years of experience in marketing, business development, sales & service operations, and customer relationship management and has been closely associated with Indian automobile companies.
When the CTC opens in a few months the facilities will be available only to AMT member companies that sign the participation agreement. It will have two primary support activities:
- Incubate market development in India for AMT’s member companies.
- Facilitate the expansion and growth of AMT members already active in India.
CTC services to members will include a first-class 10,000 sq. ft. exhibition, office and technical meeting/training facility; excellent mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and electronic field service personnel to support member company’s products in India; and the proxy hire of Indian employees on behalf of members.
In addition, there will be duty-free, bonded multiple machine and spare parts storage capabilities, logistical support to assist with customs clearance and conveniently getting equipment to/from exhibitions anywhere in India, and sales leads that will come from the CTC’s many manufacturing visitors.
India, as part of the international manufacturing technology market, represents an excellent new opportunity for the U.S. machine tool industry. The middle class in India is fueling economic growth and disposable incomes are expected to grow an average of 8.5 percent per year until 2015.
AMT-The Association For Manufacturing Technology (founded in 1902 as the National Machine Tool Builders’ Association) supports and promotes the U.S. machine tool industry. The association provides U.S. builders of manufacturing systems with the latest information on technical developments, trade and marketing opportunities, and economic issues. It also gathers and disseminates information about world markets, promotes its members’ products in those markets, and acts as a representative on manufacturing technology matters to governments and trade organizations throughout the world.
AMT also owns and operates the International Manufacturing Technology Show (IMTS), held every even-numbered year in Chicago. IMTS 2008, to be held at McCormick Place, September 8-13, 2008, will be the first IMTS to be held on a new six-day schedule. It is among the largest industrial expositions in the world and the largest of its type in the Americas. This giant trade show attracts nearly 100,000 buyers and sellers from over 100 countries. More than 1,200 exhibiting companies participate in this extravaganza of the finest manufacturing equipment and related technology in the world.
