Jeffery H. Traver joins AMT as Vice President-Business Development

Jeffery H. Traver has joined AMT as Vice President-Business Development. He brings over 22 years of management experience in diversified manufacturing operations, as well as international experience with major multinational corporations. He will replace Steven Thiry who will leave AMT in a few months after a transitional period.

“Jeff has the ideal background to continue the innovative programs AMT has initiated under Steve Thiry’s guidance,” said John B. Byrd III, AMT President. “His varied background in manufacturing management and consulting will enable AMT to continue to offer new programs and services to its members.”

At AMT, Traver will head the department responsible for marketing and business development assistance to members, in both domestic and international markets. These activities support AMT’s strategic goals to drive market penetration worldwide and to increase members’ competitiveness. Among the facilities reporting to him are the three AMT Representative Offices in China, the Shanghai Technology and Service Center, the Technical Center and offices in Mexico, and the new Chennai Technology and Service Centre to open this year in India.

Traver spent 13 years at the General Electric Co., working first in the Turbine Business Operations and then moving into management positions in the Electrical Distribution and Control business. He moved to Europe and worked to drive change and improve productivity in GE’s Power Control Business in Europe while based in Milan, Italy. He then moved to Barcelona, Spain and took on responsibility for the unit’s logistics operations in Western Europe. Finally, he returned to Italy as Manager of the push button business unit headquartered in Torino.

Traver next joined ABTCO, a privately-held maker of hardboard, fiber cement, and wood chip products, as Vice President, Manufacturing. When the firm was purchased by Louisiana Pacific Corp. he continued in manufacturing management positions.

He has worked in management consulting with the Harbour Group and spent several years as Senior Vice President & COO of C-Tech Industries, a major manufacturer of high pressure cleaning equipment.

He graduated from The Pennsylvania State University with a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering and has a master’s degree in Management Engineering from the University of Bridgeport. Traver and his wife Silvia have three children and will be relocating to the Washington, D.C., area.

AMT (founded in 1902 as the National Machine Tool Builders’ Association) supports and promotes the U.S. machine tool industry. The association provides U.S. builders of manufacturing systems with the latest information on technical developments, trade and marketing opportunities, and economic issues. It also gathers and disseminates information about world markets, promotes its members’ products in those markets, and acts as a representative on manufacturing technology matters to governments and trade organizations throughout the world.
