January 24, 2007 - In his State of the Union Address, President Bush proposed a standard deduction for health insurance in order to make health care more affordable to Americans. The deduction would work much like the income tax deduction for dependents and is aimed at reducing the number of uninsured.
The Treasury Department released an analysis of the President's proposal showing that it makes the tax code more progressive by concentrating the tax benefits on lower and middle class taxpayers.
