May 30, 2007 -- Ford is interested in making 100% of components for its Russian plant on the spot, stated Henrik Nenzen, Ford president for Russia. That would allow the company to cut its transportation costs. To this end, however, Ford will have to set up the on-spot production of pressed parts and engines, which constitute 50% to 60% of total automotive production costs. Accomplishing this task would take seven to ten years, experts said. At present, the Ford plant in Russia takes in glass from the Bor glass plant, mats and fenders from Elast Technologies, aerials from Avtoarmatura, noise insulation carpets from Standard Plast Ivanovo, gas cleaning fluid from Tsentspirtprompererabotka and seats from Johnson Controls. Several more companies, including the Aerospace Equipment Corporation, announced plans to set up production of auto components for car assembly plants in Russia, including Ford.
