June 7, 2007 -- Autoliv, the world's biggest seatbelt and airbag maker, said on Thursday it was building a new plant in Mexico. Autoliv said in a statement the plant would become its fifth in the country and employ about 500 people following an investment of about $4 million. The factory would begin operations at the end of this year, it added. The firm has been moving production to countries in eastern Europe, Asia and Latin America in recents years, seeking out lower labour costs to offset the sting of fierce price pressure and rising costs for raw materials.
