China's Medical Device Market to Be Valued at ¥12 Million in 2010

June 12, 2007 -- The capacity of China's medical device market is predicted to top ¥12 million in 2010. At a recent forum on the development of the medical device industry, experts say the sales of China's medical industry only contributes 2% to the global sales, far from meeting the demand of China's sanitary and healthy causes. More than 90% of China's medical devices are low- and medium-end ordinary products. Instruments and equipment are mainly from imports, representing more than 45% of China's medical imports. Therefore, Chinese Government has adopted policies to develop community medical treatment, set up cooperative medical system and enhance the sanitary infrastructure construction in new countryside.

According to the eleventh Five-Year Plan, Chinese Government will invest CNY 20 billion in sanitary infrastructure construction and implement the standard for equipment in grass roots hospitals. For example, Shanghai Municipal Government is said to improve its medical industrial level and build medical service and industrial bases. Except medical services including medical education, diagnosis, treatment, recovery and physical, it will also emphatically develop medical device industry integrating research and development, production, exhibition and trade.
