Japan's Fanuc Plans New Factory for Robot Devices

June 14, 2007 -- Japanese machinery maker Fanuc Ltd. plans to build a new factory that will almost double its capacity to make devices used to control machine tools and industrial robots, the company said Thursday. The new plant, scheduled for a 2008 start date, will be near Fanuc's headquarters in Yamanashi prefecture, central Japan, a Fanuc spokesman said. He declined comment on the development cost of the plant. Cash on hand will be used to finance the factory, he said.

The plant will give Fanuc the capacity to make 30,000 computer numerical control units per month, up from a current monthly capacity of 17,000 units, the spokesman said. The move reflects growing demand from manufacturers, such as automakers and electronics companies, who need precision equipment in their manufacturing processes.
