June 21, 2007 -- Germsan steel producer ThyssenKrupp is building a steel complex in Brazil for a total cost of around 4 bln usd, Brazil's National, Social and Economic Development Bank (BNDES) announced today. ThyssenKrupp is working in partnership with Brazil's Companhia Vale do Rio Doce on the project via ThyssenKrupp CSA Companhia Siderurgica, in which it holds a 90 pct stake, and CVRD holds the remainder. BNDES is financing around 18 pct of the total investment which will see the construction of a new 5 mln tonnes per year steel slab mill in Santa Cruz, Rio de Janeiro state, to start operating by 2009, as well as a port.
