July 13, 2007 -- Force Protection Inc., which manufactures military vehicles plans to open a facility in north-central North Carolina, creating 270 jobs over the next four years, officials said. Force Protection, based in Ladson, S.C., will invest $31 million in Person County and move into a former Collins & Aikman plant outside Roxboro, according to a new release from Gov. Mike Easley's office. The new facility will be used for manufacturing a new "Cheetah" vehicle line and other projects. Easley said the company received a $500,000 grant from the One North Carolina Fund, a state program that aims to recruit industry and create jobs.
