Taiwan Machine Tool Makers to Ply High-efficiency Models at EMO Hannover 2007

September 17, 2007 -- At the EMO Hannover 2007, the world’s largest machine-tool show slated for September 17-24 at the Hannover Messe, Taiwan’s leading manufacturers in this field will showcase newly developed high-speed multi-stack machine tools to vie for more business opportunities in the European market.

Domestic leading manufacturers taking part in the EMO include Tongtai Machine & Tool Co., Yeong Chin Machinery Industries Co., She Hong Industrial Co., Far East Machinery Co., Goodway Machinery Co. and Quaser Machine Tools Inc. These companies unanimously noted that European market is dominated by high-performance machine tools due to high labor costs.

Yeh Hsin-hua, president of She Hong, said in recent years some European manufacturers of automobile parts have returned to home from Turkey and some Eastern European nations to concentrate on production of high-tier products after years of meeting manufacturing trouble outside European Union nations.

About a decade ago, some European manufacturers of automobile and related parts rushed to relocate production facilities to Eastern Europe and Turkey to fend off skyrocketed labor costs and social welfare spending. But they have found they couldn’t make high-quality products in Eastern Europe and Turkey as they did at home, which has pushed them to return home to focus on high-quality products. In this situation, demand for high-efficiency and high-performance machine tools is increasing in European marketplace.

Goodway general manager Hsu Fu-chu said his company is showcasing five top-tier machine tools at the EMO to meet he European market’s demand for labor-saving and high-efficiency production equipment. Hsu said the five machine tools are equipped with dual spindles, dual power turrets and Y-axis, allowing such multiple machining functions as cutting, milling and drilling without the need for moving workpieces. He anticipated his company would be able to land orders for 50 such machines worth over NT$100 million (US$3.03 million at US$1:NT$33) at the EMO.

Factory Automation Technology Co., a subsidiary of Far East Machinery Group, is displaying a model of multi-stack machine tool, equipped with a high-speed spindle and power turret, to tap automobile part industry in Europe. In addition, the company is also showcasing its niche model-a horizontal boring & milling machine at the same venue.

As European market demands high-efficiency machine tools, Factory Automation believes it would be able to land orders from buyers in Italy, Finland and Turkey at the EMO event. The company anticipates it would see exports to European market doubled this year from the previous year’s level.
