September 18, 2007 -- Korosho has completed the hearings of related organizations that it held to formulate a new vision for the medical devices industry. The new vision will call on the industry to strengthen its international competitiveness and increase the efficacy in the distribution of medical devices. Korosho met nine concerned organizations by the end of August, including the Japan Medical Devices Manufacturers Association (JMED), Japan Association of Health Industry Distributors (JAHID), and European Business Council (EBC) in Japan.
Korosho will hold a meeting of the Council for the Promotion of the Medical Devices Industry at the end of September to discuss the findings obtained in the hearings. Almost all the organizations Korosho met have requested the expedition of the application review process. Korosho plans to announce a new vision in March 2008.
Korosho announced its first vision for the medical devices industry in 2003 and proposed a series of measures to support the Japanese medical devices industry to help it develop business globally with international competitiveness. Korosho has decided to revise its vision since the plans of action proposed at the same time will end in FY2007.
The new vision will refer to not only medical devices used in advanced healthcare services but also those used in routine home care, as well as those used in the prevention and early diagnosis of diseases. It will also refer to in vitro diagnostic agents, dental materials, and regenerative medicine.
