September 19, 2007 -- China Steel Resources Holding Company wants to build a large steel plant in South Kalimantan, a regional official said. Head of the South Kalimantan office of the regional development planning board Noor Riwandi said the ground breaking ceremony will take place next month to mark the start of the construction of the plant. However, Riwandi said he could not give details about the project as no agreement has been signed by the Chinese company on the project to be built in the regency of Tanah Bambu.
Meanwhile, state-owned steel maker PT Krakatau Steel said its plan to build a steel factory in that province will certainly be delayed. KS plans to build a steel plant to process iron ore in cooperation with state-owned mining company PT Aneka Tambang with an investment of US$65 million. KS President Daenulhay said construction, which was originally to start toward the end of this year will be delayed until March 2008.
