September 20, 2007 -- Japanese car and motorcycle maker Honda targets an annual output of 30,000 units of the latest sports utility vehicle (SUV) model CR-V in Mexico, Honda's Mexican unit said.
The target corresponds to a daily output of 120 CR-V units for the domestic market and for exports to the USA, Brazil, Argentina and Uruguay. In a medium-term period the company plans to increase the annual CR-V production in Mexico to 50,000 units, which is 200 units daily, the spokesman of Honda de Mexico, Eduardo Aragon, said. Honda started the production of CR-V in its plant in El Salto, in the Mexican western state of Jalisco, on September 10, 2007. The major part of the El Salto output will be dedicated to exports to the USA and South America.
The targets are part of Honda's plan announced at the end of 2006 to invest $80 mln (57 mln euro) in expansion in El Salto in the next two years.
