September 25, 2007 -- Strong demand from aircraft makers has prompted an expansion at Mitsui Seiki, a Japanese builder of extremely high-precision machine tools. The company says it has opened a 17,000-sq.-ft. building at its Saitama plant as the first-stage of the expansion, with two more production bays each of 50,000 sq. ft. to follow in June 2008. After all of the new production space is on line, the company plans to build 45 to 55 machine tools a month, up from its present monthly rate of 20 to 30. The company told Aviation Week & Space Technology this year that sheer lack of space was one of its most pressing problems.
