November 28, 2007 -- Japanese car and precision machinery parts maker Urawa Works Co will invest approximately 2.0 bln Japanese yen ($18.1 mln/12.4 mln euro) in doubling the production capacity at its core Maebashi plant in Gunma prefecture, eastern Japan, it was reported on November 28, 2007.
No comparative figures were available.
Urawa Works will install at the plant 70 new machining centers (MC) for the production of car steering and oil-pump parts, and precision machinery nuts. As a result, the company sees its sales jumping by 40 pct to 5.2 bln yen ($47 mln/32 mln euro) in the fiscal 2009/2010, ending June 2010, compared to 2006/2007.
Out of Urawa Works' 2006/2007 sales, 65 pct were generated from the company's car division and the remaining 35 pct from its precision machinery one, in contrast to some five years ago when precision machinery used to be the company's core business.
Major bearings maker NSK Ltd group accounts for 80 pct of Urawa Works' sales. Other principal customers of the company include Yamada Manufacturing Co, a car and motorcycle functional parts developer and maker, based in Kiryu, Gunma prefecture, and affiliated with car maker Honda Motor Co.
