February 18, 2008 -- Brazilian steel maker Gerdau announced on February 18, 2008 that power sector watchdog Aneel allowed the company to operate a hydroelectric power complex in southern Parana state, which will demand $173 mln (118.23 mln euro) investments.
The complex called Sao Joao - Cachoeirinha, will comprise two hydroelectric power plants (HPP) to be built on the Chopim river, between the Parana municipalities of Honorio Serpa and Clevelandia. The Sao Joao HPP will have a capacity of 60 MW, while Cachoeirinha's capacity will be 45 MW. The complex' construction is seen to be completed in the beginning of 2011.
