February 21, 2008 - Joe L. Menger, age 60, former president of The National Acme Company in Cleveland, OH, and AMT Director from 1993-96, passed away on February 15.
Menger, who resided in Solon, OH, joined National Acme in 1984 and served as president from 1988 to 1997. The company, which began in 1894, said it developed the first multiple spindle automatic turning machines and sold more than 60,000 throughout the world. During Menger’s tenure as president, the company created a joint venture in China and sales partnerships in Japan, Europe, India and South America.
He sold the company to Devlieg-Bullard in 1995 and continued to run it until 1997, when he left to begin The Council for Strategic Planning, Inc. Menger also was serving as a director of Erie Press Systems.
Menger previously worked for General Motors Corp., International Metalworking Sales and two small Cleveland-area manufacturing companies. He received a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Michigan and a MBA from Case Western Reserve University.
He is survived by his wife Jeanne and his children Kristin and Jeffrey.
Funeral services are scheduled on Saturday, February 23, at 11:15 a.m., at Tabone-Komorowski Funeral Home, 33650 Solon Road, Solon, OH, and at noon at Church of the Resurrection in Solon. Visitation at the funeral home is scheduled on Friday, February 22, from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m.
