Siemens Brasil Gets $17 Mln Order from Canada BC Hydro

February 26, 2008 -- Siemens Brasil, the Brazilian unit of German electronics and engineering group Siemens AG, has signed a $17 mln (11.4 mln euro) contract with Canadian utility BC Hydro to supply eight transformers, Siemens Brasil said on February 25, 2008.

The 500,000 volt transformers will be provided by Siemens Brasil's subsidiary Transformadores Uniao Ltda (TUSA). The deliveries will start in March 2009.

BC Hydro serves some 1.6 million clients. In 2007 it generated 43,000 GWh of electricity, with hydroelectric plants accounting for 90 pct of the total output.

TUSA, which makes transformers, has implemented extensive investments to expand its production and engineering capacity. The investments have helped the company to attract large clients from the United States, Brazil, Canada, Argentina and Chile. TUSA's plant is located in Jundiai, in the southeastern Sao Paulo state.
