March 4, 2008 -- Aston Martin has signed an agreement with automotive engineering consultancy and contract assembler Magna Steyr to manufacture the marque's new Rapide sedan. According to an Aston Martin press release, the decision has been taken to outsource the manufacture of the Rapide as a result of the continuing high demand for its existing model range, which includes the V8 Vantage, the DB9 and the recently launched DBS. Production is expected to begin in late 2009 with around 2000 cars being built annually. The Rapide was launched as a running concept car at the Detroit Auto Show in 2006 and since that time Aston Martin has been investigating solutions for producing the model, which will be Aston Martin's first four-door sedan since the Lagonda. Work has already begun to establish Rapide production line at Magna Steyr's production facility in Graz, Austria, which already contract assembles the BMW X3, Chrysler 300C and Saab 9-3 Convertible.
