Six Companies Looking to Supply Ford

March 27, 2008 -- Six companies supplying auto maker Ford with components, including Johnson Controls, Kirchhoff Automotive, Gestamp Automocion and Bamesa, are looking for land in Craiova to build production units as close as Ford plant as possible. Cumulated, the four companies might invest at least €150 million, according to daily paper Romania Libera.

Kirchhoff Automotive of Germany has already held negotiations with Stefan Cherciu, a local businessman, who says he owns about 1,000 hectares of land. Craiova mayor Antonie Solomon believes that the Germans with Kirchoff will invest for the beginning about €50-60 million.

Johnson Controls, another interested company, did not find a location in Dolj, so it moved to Olt, a neighboring county, in Bals locality, 20 kilometers away from Craiova. Bamesa, a Spanish company which produces steel parts for cars, is also looking for a location for its factory but did not offer details about a possible investment.
