March 27, 2008 -- China's top commercial vehicle producer Beiqi Forton Motor and Cummins Inc. just established a joint venture engine plant with an investment of CNY2.7 billion and designed annual production capacity of 400,000 sets. The project will be China's largest engine manufacturing company with equity shared equally by both parties.
The project mainly produces light-duty four-cylinder in-line direct-injection diesel engines with capacity of 2.8 liters and 3.8 liters for light truck, pickup, SUV, MPV, light engineering equipment and others. Construction will start in September 2008 at Changping District of Beijing neighboring Beiqi Forton Motor covering 170,000 square meters. September 2009 is when 3.8-liter and 2.8-liter engines are expected to be in mass production. Beiqi Forton Motor aims to sell 800,000 to one million complete cars by 2010 with 20 per cent sold on overseas markets.
