March 28, 2008 -- Cummins and Beiqi Foton Motor have officially launched their new engine joint venture, reportedly the largest in China, according to AFP. The equal-parts venture company will produce 2.8-litre and 3.8-litre Cummins diesel engines in a new facility under construction in Beijing.
Operations are scheduled to begin in early 2009, with capacity expected to hit 400,000 units a year. The engines will be sold locally and overseas. Foton plans to install the engines in its high-end light trucks. Cummins is investing a total of $385m in the project.
