Cambridge, Ontario - May 2, 2007 – With Yamazaki Mazak Corporation President Tomohisa Yamazaki, Mazak Corporation President Brian Papke, and Cambridge Mayor Doug Craig present, Mazak Corporation Canada celebrated the Grand Opening of its new $4 million Canada Headquarters and Technology Centre on May 2 in Cambridge, Ontario.
Mazak Canada Corporation is the Canadian operation of Mazak Corporation (Florence, KY), which is the North American division of Yamazaki Mazak (Oguchi, Japan), the largest machine tool builder in the world.
The new Canada Headquarters and Technology Centre covers 2,044 square meters on a 1.53-hectare site next to Ontario’s Highway 401 and will be home to Mazak Corporation Canada’s 30-person sales and service support operation (12 in the office, 18 factory-trained service technicians in the field across Canada). It is also a vital connection to Mazak’s exclusive distributors throughout Canada: A.W. Miller Technical Sales Inc. in Mississuaga, Ontario; A.W. Miller Equipement Technique in St. Laurent, Quebec; and Machine Toolworks in Edmonton, Alberta.
It is also home to Mazak’s Canada Technology Centre, the eighth in North America and the 29th worldwide. Each Mazak Technology Centre is a commitment to stay close to the unique requirements and character of world’s most important local manufacturing markets, helping customers implement the latest machine-tool technologies and equipment for improved productivity. With knowledgeable personnel close and accessible to Canadian manufacturers, Mazak can provide unique manufacturing solutions, including turnkey systems and process development expertise.
“This Technology Centre is proof of Mazak’s commitment to helping our Canadian customers improve productivity and profitability with machine tool technology solutions specifically developed for their particular needs,” Papke said in his Grand Opening remarks.
The Canada Technology Centre can also host technical seminars on the latest manufacturing advances and demonstrate such solutions as multi-tasking technology, five-axis machining, and high-speed machining centres. A large Technology Hall houses 11 Mazak machines for hands-on applications, and presentation and seminar rooms will support training and continuing education programs.
Mazak’s Canada Technology Centre’s engineering and service functions include:
- Turnkey system integration and applications engineering tailored to individual company production needs.
- Access to related expertise such as CAD/CAM, automation, and tooling strategies.
- Factory-trained service personnel.
- Access to Mazak’s North American Parts Center in Florence, KY and its $52 million in ready-to-ship inventory.
- 24-hour-a-day telephone service at 1-800-668-5449.
Ground was broken for the Technology Centre in April 2006 and it was completed in December.
The Canada Technology Centre is part of the North American network of regional Headquarters and Technology Centres, including the U.S. National Technology Center in Florence, KY. Other regional Headquarters and Technology Centres, which focus on specific regional industries include: the Western Headquarters and Technology Center (Los Angeles) for the aerospace and high-tech equipment, Southwest Technology Center (Houston) for energy services, Northeast Headquarters and Technology Center (Hartford, CT) for medical and high-tech applications, Southeast Headquarters and Technology Center (Atlanta) for transportation and automotive components manufacturing, Midwest Headquarters and Technology Center (Chicago) for agricultural and heavy equipment, and Mexico Headquarters and Technology Center (Monterrey) for the growing manufacturing created to support requirements made possible by NAFTA.
“Mazak has brought to the machine shop business a very close partnership relationship,” says Mazak customer Peter J. Harry, Managing Director of Eldorado Tool & Manufacturing Company Ltd., in Waterloo, Ontario. “By putting a Technology Centre here, Mazak is acknowledging the importance of Canadian manufacturers. It’s like they put us on the map.”
The largest machine tool builder in the world, with manufacturing operations in five countries (Japan, U.S., United Kingdom, Singapore and China), Mazak worldwide provides the widest range of advanced-technology equipment and systems for the productivity improvement of manufacturers worldwide. Mazak also is upgrading its manufacturing facilities in Florence, KY.
