Akron, N.Y. - June 2007 — Strippit/LVD has expanded its line of Orion CO2 laser cutting systems with the feature-enhanced Orion 3015Plus and the Orion 3015 Auto Load/Unload. The Orion 3015Plus provides automatic focal positioning, greater process control functionality, and optional automatic load/unload system in addition to all standard features found on the Orion.
Strippit/LVD’s Orion laser cutting systems allow cost efficient processing of a range of materials in sheet sizes up to 1500 x 3000 mm.
Orion’s hybrid-style design is comprised of a highly rigid, high precision rack-and-pinion drive system that delivers precise motion and position control. The rigid framework permits Orion systems to maintain high processing speeds without loss of cut quality. A simple beam delivery system ensures easy alignment and a stable beam path.
Quick Set-Up
Orion 3015Plus is enhanced with automatic NC Focus which uses an AC servo motor to automatically adjust to the optimum focal position for the material being processed. Focal positions for a variety of materials are automatically determined by the machine’s on-board technology tables and automatically set using the NC Focus system.
A built-in capacitive height sensor automatically maintains a constant distance between the head and the plate, automatically compensating for any unevenness in the material.
The standard laser cutting head accommodates a 5” or 7.5” quick-change lens. These water-cooled quick-change lenses can be installed or exchanged easily, using a self-centering system. Lens calibration is programmable and quick to achieve.
Automatic cutting gas selection and automatic cutting gas pressure control with servo valve are other standard features that further simplify machine set-up and operation.
Consistent Cut Quality
A high-pressure cutting head produces exceptionally clean cuts and is equipped with a safety system that protects the head from collision with the workpiece.
The Orion 3015Plus is equipped with Process Control which automatically senses piercing times and detects and controls plasma when cutting stainless steel and aluminum. This enhanced feature maximizes processing time and minimizes part damage due to loss of cut.
In addition, an Air/Oil Spray device safely disperses splatter and lubricates the sheet when processing thicker materials, ensuring part quality is maintained.
Integrated Laser Package
Orion laser cutting systems employ the highly reliable GE Fanuc RF excited fast axial flow CO2 laser. The laser, CNC control, drives and motors are fully integrated, providing superior processing speed, high reliability, and low operating and maintenance costs.
Orion 3015Plus features an enhanced Fanuc 16i – LB CNC control with 9.5” color screen, expanded memory capacity and additional control functionality.
The integrated GE Fanuc control provides perfect reproduction of programmed contours, producing acute angles at high speed. The laser power is matched to the vectorial speeds to achieve a constant cut width and a small heat-affected zone.
All parameters, diagnostic and start-up procedures are conveniently displayed on a single color screen. The 32-bit control features powerful mathematical capabilities and an extensive material library.
Optional CADMAN-L 3D offline programming software provides a powerful laser-cutting CAM package. This includes an integrated 3D design and unfolding module, which allows easy importing of 2D and 3D designs, automatic unfolding and generation of flat patterns from 2D or 3D files. CADMAN-L 3D also incorporates fully automatic, semi-automatic or manual nesting and optimizes cutting and machine parameters to maximize sheet utilization. Advanced features include cutting path optimization and common line cutting.
Automation Ready
The Orion 3015Plus is automation ready and can be equipped or retrofitted with an automatic load/unload system. The automatic load/unload system eliminates manual sheet handling and increases productivity and efficiency.
