Companies must meet each of the following criteria to be considered for membership in AMT – The Association For Manufacturing Technology:
1. Firms must produce within the United States at least one product line consisting of power driven manufacturing machinery, not portable by hand, and/or related equipment, products or software used in the process of transforming man-made materials into discrete durable goods (i.e. machine tools, automated systems, laser systems, measurement systems, assembly or robotic systems, other machines and systems, parts and components, controls, accessories, attachments, tools and tooling, software, and engineering and system design services)
NOTE: The product line identified for AMT membership eligibility consideration will be referred to hereafter as the firm’s qualifying product line.
2. Firms must have, for one year or more immediately preceding the date of membership application, been engaged within the United States in the sale, and manufacture or production of their qualifying product line.
3. Firms must demonstrate to AMT’s satisfaction that any foreign cost associated with the qualifying product line does not exceed 35% of the U.S. revenue of that product line. A company must either provide a Certificate of Origin for Free Trade Agreements with Chile or Singapore or a statement signed by the applicant’s chief executive officer or president stating that the company meets this requirement. In cases where deemed necessary, AMT may request additional means, including supporting data, cost breakdowns and/or a plant visit to validate this requirement.
4. Companies whose business includes rebuilding, retrofitting, importing, distributing, repairing, or servicing manufacturing technology tools and/or providing contract machining services will be considered for membership only if they have a qualifying product line as described above and defined on the reverse. These business areas alone cannot be used as consideration for membership with AMT.
For the purposes of determining AMT membership eligibility, please consider the following definitions:
Qualifying Product Line is the line of manufacturing technology product manufactured in the United States on a consistent and ongoing basis and demonstrably sold in the general marketplace that AMT should consider when determining a company’s eligibility for membership. An applicant must have at least one qualifying product line that meets all of the criteria to be considered for membership with AMT. For companies who are builders of custom-engineered manufacturing systems, the eligibility criteria must be met on one complete project.
General Marketplace is the open market for manufacturing technology where products are sold or leased for use on or with manufacturing technology equipment. In order to qualify, the applicant's product must be available as a stand-alone product rather than as an item available only on the applicant's products.
Total U.S. Revenue is the total income produced from the sale of the qualifying product.
