Coalition on Manufacturing Technology Infrastructure
|
| |
| |
The goals of the coalition are to:
- Develop advanced technology roadmaps
- Define research agendas
- Provide collaborative opportunities (R&D programs)
- Provide a technology transitional framework
Why?
Increasingly sophisticated advanced manufacturing technologies are no longer solely a matter of competition between corporations; rather, it is more and more competition between nations. So far, U.S. application of the most basic core competencies in advanced manufacturing precision and high speed machining is equal to or better than other industrial nations. But the pace of competition is growing more intense. As a nation, we cannot afford to fall behind in this competition, nor can we afford to disregard the importance of a highly technically supported manufacturing infrastructure. Most importantly, advanced domestic manufacturing capability is vital to today's high-tech defense industrial base.
The coalition was established to address the needs of large, medium and small manufacturers by pursuing the development of new advancements and enabling manufacturing technologies.
The coalition is currently pursuing the Smart Machine Platform Initiative.
In addition to AMT, coalition members include:
Automation Federation
Integrated Manufacturing Technology Initiative (IMTI)
ISA-The Instrumentation, Systems, and Automation Society National Center for Defense Manufacturing and Machining (NCDMM)
National Center for Manufacturing Sciences (NCMS)
National Council for Advanced Manufacturing (NACFAM)
National Institute for Standards and Technology (NIST)
National Tooling and Machining Association (NTMA)
