05 March 2010e-News from Washington (March 5, 2010)The President continued his push for health care reform this week as he called for an up or down vote on legislation in the coming weeks. Congressman Sander Levin (D-MI) took the reins of the powerful House Ways and Means Committee, at least temporarily, as embattled Chairman Charlie Rangel stepped aside amid ethics investigations. Four Democratic Senators called for tougher "Buy American" rules when it comes to stimulus funds, while a bipartisan group of Senators wrote President Obama urging implementation of a national Manufacturing Policy. Lastly, the $15 billion jobs bill, which includes a one-year extension of enhanced Sec. 179 expensing, narrowly passed the House. The Senate is expected to approve it next week and send it to the President for signature. (more) |
24 February 2010Year-End 2009 Industrial Lasers Down 45 Percent from 2008Orders of industrial laser equipment and systems in 2009 are reported at $259.9 million, a decrease of 45.3 percent from 2008, according to AMT - The Association For Manufacturing Technology. The report compiled from 19 manufacturers and distributors shows that the value of orders of CO2 lasers fell 47.6 percent. Nd:YAG orders showed a decline of 17.9 percent. CO2 orders totaled $229.3 million, and Nd:YAG lasers totaled $30.3 million. (more) |
