March 8, 2010 - USMTC News Release for January Manufacturing Technology Consumption

January U.S. manufacturing technology consumption totaled $130.96 million, according to AMTDA, the American Machine Tool Distributors’ Association, and AMT - The Association For Manufacturing Technology.  This total, as reported by companies participating in the USMTC program, was down 40.3% from December but up 26.2% from the total of $103.77 million reported for January 2009.

Year-End 2009 Industrial Lasers Down 45 Percent from 2008

Orders of industrial laser equipment and systems in 2009 are reported at $259.9 million, a decrease of 45.3 percent from 2008, according to AMT - The Association For Manufacturing Technology. The report compiled from 19 manufacturers and distributors shows that the value of orders of CO₂ lasers fell 47.6 percent. Nd:YAG orders showed a decline of 17.9 percent. CO₂ orders totaled $229.3 million, and Nd:YAG lasers totaled $30.3 million.

December U.S. manufacturing technology consumption totaled $219.60 million, according to AMT - The Association For Manufacturing Technology, and AMTDA, the American Machine Tool Distributors’ Association.  This total, as reported by companies participating in the USMTC program, was up 22.9% from November but down 5.7% from the total of $232.93 million reported for December 2008.  With a year-to-date total of  $1,771.91 million, 2009 is down 60.4% compared with 2008.

Fourth Quarter Workholding Shipments Down from 2008 Levels

At $46.2 million for fourth quarter 2009, shipments of workholding equipment were down 19.0 percent from fourth quarter 2008 according to the Advanced Workholding Technology (AWT) Group of AMT - The Association For Manufacturing Technology. Workholding equipment shipments within the United States by the 38 companies participating in the AWT statistical report totaled $37.4 million while exports amounted to $8.8 million.

July 1, 2009 - Orders of industrial laser equipment and systems in first quarter 2009 are reported at $58.8 million, a decrease of 38.2 percent from fourth quarter 2008, according to AMT - The Association For Manufacturing Technology.  Orders within North America totaled $45.9 million, while exports amounted to approximately $12.9 million. By dollar value, laser systems consisting of a source and workstation made up 87.9 percent of orders. Measured by units, systems accounted for 61.1 percent of units.
