Exports for YTD 2008 totaled $1,852.2 million, an increase of 16.6% when compared to the same period of 2007. Monthly machine tool imports valued $388.9 million in September, down 16.2% from Augusts' total of $464.1 million. Imports for YTD 2008 totaled $3,914.1 million, an increase of 16.3% when compared to the same period for 2007.

Manufacturing Technology Industry Backs Detroit's Plea for Help

November 10, 2008 - Bob Simpson, President of AMT – The Association For Manufacturing Technology, today called on Congress and the Administration to heed the pleas of America’s automakers for help or risk a crushing blow to businesses and jobs dependent on the auto industry. Citing reports that U.S. automakers are on the verge of financial ruin amid massive third quarter losses, Simpson requested immediate legislative action to help Detroit’s Big Three recover from the worst sales reported in 17 years.
