November 17, 2008 - AMT - The Association For Manufacturing Technology joined 22 leading national trade associations in calling on Congress and the President to extend the capital investment incentives included in the 2008 Economic Stimulus Act.

November 17 , 2008 — AMT - The Association For Manufacturing Technology is urging Congress to ease tax burdens on American manufacturing in its effort to strengthen the American economy — including extending the temporary expensing provisions that Congress offered businesses that expire at the end of the year.

U.S. machine tool exports valued $215.6 million in September, down 10.1% from Augusts' total of $239.8 million.  Exports for YTD 2008 totaled $1,852.2 million, an increase of 16.6% when compared to the same period of 2007.  Monthly machine tool imports valued $388.9 million in September, down 16.2% from Augusts' total of $464.1 million.  Imports for YTD 2008 totaled $3,914.1 million, an increase of 16.3% when compared to the same period for 2007.

November 10, 2008 - Bob Simpson, President of AMT – The Association For Manufacturing Technology, today called on Congress and the Administration to heed the pleas of America’s automakers for help or risk a crushing blow to businesses and jobs dependent on the auto industry. Citing reports that U.S. automakers are on the verge of financial ruin amid massive third quarter losses, Simpson requested immediate legislative action to help Detroit’s Big Three recover from the worst sales reported in 17 years.

A highlight of the AMT Annual Meeting was the presentation by Professor Paul Zane Pilzer entitled Economic Alchemy. Professor Pilzer’s Theory of Economic Alchemy is based on the importance of technology in determining economic success and well-being.

January 13, 14 & 15, 2009 – The ANSI B11.19 Subcommittee deals with safeguard performance criteria for machines.  This meeting will be held at Hilton Longboat Key, Longboat Key (Sarasota), Florida.

February 9 - 11, 2009 – The ANSI B11.TR3 Subcommittee deals with risk assessment/risk reduction for machines.  This meeting will be held at DePaul University’s O’Hare Campus in Des Plaines, Illinois.
