Treasury Responds to Congressional Oversight Panel on TARP
December 31, 2008 - The U.S. Treasury Department issued a written response to questions posed by the Congressional Oversight Panel on measures taken under the Emergency Economic Stabilization Act to stabilize the finanical markets and get the economy moving again, including how funds from the Troubled Assets Relief Program are being used toward this goal.

President Bush Announces Plan to Aid Auto Makers
December 19, 2008 - President Bush announced a plan today to stabilize auto makers by drawing from the financial rescue package Congress approved earlier this year. Automotive companies receiving loans will have to establish plans for long-term viability by March 31 or be required to repay their loans in full. "In the midst of a financial crisis and a recession, allowing the U.S. auto industry to collapse is not a responsible course of action," the President said.

Coalition Writes Congress in Opposition to Union Card Check Bill
November 20, 2008 - Looking ahead to the 111th Congress, the Coalition for a Democratic Workplace (CDW) sent a letter to all incoming Members of Congress to underscore collective industry opposition to so-called "Card Check" legislation. If enacted, this bill would reverse 70+ years of American labor law by forcing companies to recognize a union if a majority of workers signs cards indicating their desire to unionize. The current process, which requires a secret ballot election in order to install a union, would be eliminated by this proposal, thus opening employees up to a level of union intimidation unprecedented in the modern era.
AMT is a member of CDW and serves on its Lobbying Committee.

President Bush Signs $700B Economic Recovery Bill
October 3, 2008 - President Bush signed the Emergency Economic Stabilization Act of 2008 (H.R. 1424) approved by the House and Senate earlier in the week. Included in the legislation are extensions of important expired or expiring tax provisions, including the R&D tax credit.

Proposed Tax Increase on Small Exporters Shelved by House, Senate
December 20, 2007 - Before adjourning for the year, both the House and Senate passed so-called “technical corrections” to various tax laws – but not before stripping out from the package a proposal that could have more than doubled taxes on some small- to mid-sized U.S. businesses that export.
