President Approves 2008 Smart Machine Funding
November 13, 2007 - In a major victory for AMT, President Bush has signed into law the FY 2008 Defense Appropriation which includes $3 million in 2008 funding for the Smart Machine Platform Initiative (SMPI).

House and Senate Approve R&D Funding
October 2007 - The House included $3.0 million in continued project support for the Smart Machine Platform Initiative and both the House and Senate preserved and adequately funded the Manufacturing Extension Partnership and Technology Innovation Program.

Bipartisan Group of Senators Introduce National Competitiveness Investment Act
September 27, 2006 - A bipartisan coalition of Senators have introduced the National Competitiveness Investment Act, legislation to boost American economic competitiveness and retain our lead in innovative technology. The bill aims to substantially increase research investment; strengthen educational opportunities in science, technology, engineering and mathematics from elementary through graduate school; and develop an innovation infrastructure.

AMT President Writes House Appropriations Subcommittee Chair in Support of MEP
May 17, 2006 - AMT President John B. Byrd III wrote House Appropriations Science, State, Justice, Commerce and Related Agencies Subcommittee Chairman Frank Wolf (R-VA) in support of increased funding for the Manufacturing Extension Partnership (MEP) program. 

Government funding for manufacturing R&D programs, including MEP, is a top government relations priority for AMT.

AMT Supports Full Federal Funding Of MEP & ATP Programs
AMT continues to work for FY2006 federal funding of the MEP and ATP programs.

Smart Machining Platform Initiative
A program designed to develop the technologies necessary to allow manufacturing equipment to make decisions based upon acquired knowledge.
