President's Jobs Council Presents 2011 Year-End Report

The President's Jobs Council has released its 2011 year-end report, Road Map to Renewal. It includes recommendations for revitalizing manufacturing, improving education, spurring innovation and creating jobs -- all important elements of long-term economic growth and competitiveness. (more)

House Passes REINS Act

On December 7, the House of Representatives passed Congressman Geoff Davis’ (R-KY) bill, the Regulations from the Executive in Need of Scrutiny Act (H.R. 10), better known as the REINS Act. With a vote of 241 to 184, the REINS Act aims to lessen the regulatory burden businesses have had to face due to too much government oversight. A copy of Congressman Davis’ press release can be seen here.

In May, AMT wrote to Congressman expressing the organization’s full support of the REINS Act.

House Passes Workforce Democracy Bill

The U.S. House of Representatives has approved the Workforce Democracy and Fairness Act (H.R. 3094) by a 235 to 188 vote. Enactment of H.R. 3094 would rein in the activist agenda of the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) and reaffirm important protections for workers and employers. H.R. 3094 is part of the House Republican jobs agenda, aimed at removing regulatory hurdles to job creation.

AMT joined over 240 organizations as part of the Coalition for a Democratic Workplace in a letter to Congress supporting passage of H.R. 3094. CDW letter

Jobs Council Releases Interim Report to the President

The President’s Council on Jobs and Competitiveness has released “Taking Action, Building Confidence,” an interim report to the President. This report includes a series of proposals to accelerate job creation over the next five years as part of the nation’s overall jobs agenda. (more)

AMT Joins Hundreds of Organizations in Opposing Labor Persuader Rule

AMT joined with over 250 business organizations in signing the Coalition for a Democratic Workplace comments filed with the Department of Labor opposing the proposed "persuader" rule. The rule would diminish or deny employer access to legal counsel and employees’ ability to hear important information from employers.

AMT Joins Hundreds of Organizations in Push Back Against NLRB Union Rule

August 23, 2011 - AMT is one of 275 employers and associations signing on to the Coalition for a Democratic Workplace's formal comments to the National Labor Relations Board opposing the Board's Proposed Rule on the filing and processing of petitions relating to union representation of employees for purposes of collective bargaining. The new rule would threaten employers’ abilities to seek and retain legal counsel and properly discuss union organizing drives with employees, effectively imposing “card check” by regulation. (more)

NLRB Seeks Comments on Proposed Amendments to Union Election Rules

The National Labor Relations Board is seeking public comment on proposed regulations that would give labor a better chance to win union-organizing elections. Specifically, the rules would cut the time that employers have to fight union efforts after an election is requested. Deadline for written comments is August 22. (more)

Obama Administration Releases Manufacturing Framework

The Obama Administration released "A Framework for Revitalizing American Manufacturing." The report attempts to analyze the cost drivers in each step of the manufacturing process and suggests a framework for designing appropriate government support. (more)

COBRA Model Notice Information

The economic stimulus package created a temporary subsidy of health care continuation coverage ("COBRA") premiums for terminated workers and their families. These individuals also have special enrollment rights under COBRA. Employers are required to notify eligible individuals of their COBRA rights.
