08 December 2011House Passes REINS ActOn December 7, the House of Representatives passed Congressman Geoff Davis’ (R-KY) bill, the Regulations from the Executive in Need of Scrutiny Act (H.R. 10), better known as the REINS Act. With a vote of 241 to 184, the REINS Act aims to lessen the regulatory burden businesses have had to face due to too much government oversight. In May, AMT wrote to Congressman expressing the organization’s full support of the REINS Act. |
01 December 2011House Passes Workforce Democracy BillThe U.S. House of Representatives has approved the Workforce Democracy and Fairness Act (H.R. 3094) by a 235 to 188 vote. Enactment of H.R. 3094 would rein in the activist agenda of the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) and reaffirm important protections for workers and employers. H.R. 3094 is part of the House Republican jobs agenda, aimed at removing regulatory hurdles to job creation. 23 August 2011AMT Joins Hundreds of Organizations in Push Back Against NLRB Union RuleAugust 23, 2011 - AMT is one of 275 employers and associations signing on to the Coalition for a Democratic Workplace's formal comments to the National Labor Relations Board opposing the Board's Proposed Rule on the filing and processing of petitions relating to union representation of employees for purposes of collective bargaining. The new rule would threaten employers’ abilities to seek and retain legal counsel and properly discuss union organizing drives with employees, effectively imposing “card check” by regulation. 18 July 2011NLRB Seeks Comments on Proposed Amendments to Union Election RulesThe National Labor Relations Board is seeking public comment on proposed regulations that would give labor a better chance to win union-organizing elections. These individuals also have special enrollment rights under COBRA. Employers are required to notify eligible individuals of their COBRA rights.
