  • US Plans Breakthrough Military Plane Sale to India
    May 31, 2007 -- The Bush administration announced plans to sell India six Lockheed Martin Corp. C-130J cargo planes and related gear worth up to $1.1 billion in what would be the first major U.S. military aircraft deal with India. The sale would bolster a "U.S.-Indian strategic relationship that continues to be an important force for political stability, peace and economic progress in South Asia," the Pentagon's Defense Security Cooperation Agency said in a notice to Congress made public this week.

  • BAE Systems Set to Create Joint Venture with South African Denel
    May 31, 2007 -- Defence Group BAE Systems PLC is in talks with the South African government to create a jointly owned company with Denel, the state-owned defence group, the Financial Times reported.

  • Mitsubishi Heavy Receives Orders for Wind Turbines in US
    May 30, 2007 -- Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd said it received in the US orders for wind turbine power generation systems which will have combined capacity of 1,363.4 megawatts, nearly equal the size of Japan's existing total wind power generation capacity.

  • Ford Targets Full-Scale Production in Russia
    May 30, 2007 -- Ford is interested in making 100% of components for its Russian plant on the spot, stated Henrik Nenzen, Ford president for Russia. That would allow the company to cut its transportation costs. To this end, however, Ford will have to set up the on-spot production of pressed parts and engines, which constitute 50% to 60% of total automotive production costs.

  • Vietnam Steel, Tata Sign Deal to Build $3.5 Billion Steel Plant
    May 30, 2007 -- The Vietnam Steel Corporation (VSC) and India-based Tata Steel Corporation signed a memorandum of understanding in Hanoi on Tuesday, for the construction of a steel complex in central Ha Tinh province. Under the MoU, the two sides will carry out a feasibility study for a US$3.5 billion complex in Vung Ang Economic Zone. The study will be finished in September 2008.

    May 29, 2007 -- Johnson Controls has joined with Proseat (joint venture between Recticel and Woodbridge) to set up a new manufacturing joint venture for the production of molded foam seating cushions in Slovakia and Poland.

  • Nissan Motor to Market Renault Model in Mexico
    May 29, 2007 -- Nissan Motor Co. intends to market Renault SA's mainstay Logan model under an OEM agreement in Mexico beginning this summer, The Nikkei learned Monday. The automaker is yet to decide on a name for the Nissan brand version.

    May 29, 2007 -- ThyssenKrupp's plant engineering unit Uhde received a record order worth more than 650 million euros ($874.6 million) to build a turnkey fertiliser complex in Egypt, the company said on Tuesday.

    May 18, 2007 -- Hurco Companies, Inc., today reported net income of $4,680,000, or $.73 per share, for its second fiscal quarter, which ended April 30, 2007, compared to $3,929,000, or $.62 per share, for the corresponding period in 2006. For the first six months of fiscal 2007, Hurco recorded net income of $10,075,000, or $1.57 per share, compared to $6,962,000, or $1.09 per share, for the corresponding period in 2006.

  • MAG Wins Four Major Orders to Machine CGI Cylinder Blocks
    May 18, 2007 -- In a dramatic announcement, MAG Industrial Automation Systems claims to have received major volume production orders for machining lines to process compacted graphite iron (CGI) vee diesel engine cylinder blocks in four facilities in North America. According to Roger Cope, vice chairman of MAG industrial Automation Systems and president of MAG International, the company has supported CGI simultaneous engineering projects for US OEMs during 2006 and as a result has major received orders for machine tool equipment. Cope added that the capacity of three of the four lines will be doubled from that originally intended because of the massive production needs of the customers.

  • Renault Announces Investment to Produce Logan in Argentina
    May 18, 2007 -- Renault Argentina's head, Dominique Maciet, has announced that the company will invest US$65 million in its Santa Isabel plant in Cordoba province to produce the Logan ”world car”, according to AFX News, citing a local company statement. Renault Mercosur General Director Jerome Stoll last week announced that Maciet had signed an agreement with Argentine President Nestor Kirchner to invest a total of US$80 million in the country, including the cost of upgrading the plant to produce the Clio II, and an increase in Kangoo production.
