Th!nk Starts Production of Electric Car
November 30, 2007 -- The production of Th!nk's new electric car the TH!NK City has begun, according to a company press release. On Wednesday (28 November), the first City minicar for European markets, rolled off the assembly line at Th!nk's plant in Aurskog, north-east of Oslo. The first cars will then go through testing and trials under Norwegian winter conditions. Jan-Olaf Willums, chief executive officer (CEO) of Th!nk Global, said "With the production start in November, this project is on time and the prototype phase is over. We are building full production cars with all the right components from the right suppliers that have now been through several months of quality testing." In other words, the Th!nk factory is a hive of activity, as the process has moved from producing prototype cars to complete production cars. The first cars will be used for quality reassurance and tested against a strict validation plan. Nov 30, 2007

TASHKENT AIRCRAFT CO TO JOIN RF UNITED AIRCRAFT CORP BY YEAR END
November 30, 2007 -- TASHKENT, Nov 30 Asia Pulse - The Tashkent Chkalov Aircraft Company will join the United Aircraft Corporation (UAC) before the end of this year, Itar-Tass reported quoting an official from the Uzbek enterprise. Speaking at a national exhibition titled "Russia and Uzbekistan: Strategic Partnership" in Tashkent on 28 November, the official said a memorandum on the Tashkent Aircraft Company's accession to the UAC would be signed at the 9th meeting of the inter-governmental commission on economic cooperation between Russia and Uzbekistan. Volkswagen do Brasil To Invest $70 Mln to Raise Sao Carlos Plant Capacity
November 28, 2007 -- The Brazilian unit of German carmaker Volkswagen AG (VW), Volkswagen do Brasil, will invest 123 mln Brazilian reais ($70.4 mln/48.2 mln euro) to increase the daily production of its engine plant in Sao Carlos, in the southeastern Sao Paulo state, Volkswagen do Brasil said on November 28, 2007. Honda Increases CR-V Capacity in Mexico
November 27, 2007 -- Honda has increased production capacity of the CR-V crossover from 30,000 to 50,000 units a year at its assembly plant in El Salto, in western Mexico, according to Automotive News. Honda spokesperson Eduardo Aragon stated that the car will be exported to Brazil and Argentina in January. The El Salto plant also is raising its production of parts for the Accord and the CR-V and will add an all-terrain vehicle to its line-up of vehicles shipped to the United States. "The parts are for the United States and Mexico, and from January they'll be sent to Argentina and Brazil. We make parts for the same markets to which the vehicles are exported," Aragon said. Honda's production of injection moulded bumpers and instrument panels at the plant will increase from 550,000 units to 1 million a year. R.I. company plans factory in Iowa; helps offset Whirlpool loss
November 27, 2007 -- A Rhode Island company has announced plans to build a factory to make wind turbine blades, employing 500 workers over the next three years. TPI Composites Inc., based in Warren, R.I., will begin construction next week on a 316,000-square-foot factory to make the blades for General Electric Energy's 15-megawatt wind turbines. November 26, 2007 -- MMC Corporation Berhad (MMC) (KLSE:9194) Monday announced that its wholly-owned unit, MMC International Holdings Limited, has signed an agreement to build and operate an aluminum smelter with associated anode plants in Jazan Economic City (JEC) in Saudi Arabia at an estimated cost of US$3 billion. MMC International on Nov 24 signed the agreement with its partners, Saudi Binladin Group (SBG) and Aluminum Corporation of China Limited (CHALCO), to develop, own and operate the smelter that will have an annual production capacity of about one million metric tons.
