Despite the timing of AMT’s Russia Trade Mission coinciding with the worldwide economic downturn and recent Russian invasion of Georgia, the AMT members who participated were greeted enthusiastically everywhere they went. The objective of the mission was to seek out and develop distribution outlets and to gain first-hand access to manufacturing plants and groups of manufacturing technology end users. Starting off in Moscow and then flying East to Kazan in Tatarstan, the idea was to pack as much as possible into a regular working week of five days.

AMT Annual Meeting - November 2008
AMT Annual Meeting looks at state of American manufacturing — Manufacturing exports from the United States are at the highest percentage of Gross Domestic Product since World War II, but a continued commitment to globalization and innovation are necessary for U.S. manufacturers’ continued success, Chicago Federal Reserve President and CEO Charles L. Evans told AMT’s Annual Meeting attendees in Austin, Texas.

AMT elects new Board of Directors and Officers
October 7, 2008 - AMT elected its 2008-2009 officers and directors today at its 2008 Annual Meeting in Austin, Texas. The Board of Directors of the association, which represents more than 400 American manufacturers of machine tools, manufacturing machinery and related products, elected Ronald F. Schildge, President, Eitel Presses, Inc., Orwigsburg, Pa., as Chairman. He replaces Doug Currie, President & CEO, Erie Press Systems, Erie, Pa. Mr. Currie will now serve the association as an Ex-Officio member of its Board of Directors.

Federal Facts - November 2008
Another reason for an intelligent China policy — A portion of the current U.S. (and world) financial meltdown can be traced to China's economic strategy. In order to maintain the low price of the yuan, China intervened with hundreds of billions of dollars per year in world currency markets to buy Treasury bonds and U.S. dollar instruments. Among those instruments were tens of billions of dollars worth of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac bonds, thus creating hyper-liquidity in the U.S. housing market.

International Report - Brazil - November 2008
At times like these, in which the markets seem to go up and down like a roller coaster, not all places around the world behave in the same way. The financial and monetary turmoil that presently plagues our country, and apparently is causing havoc in many other economic powerhouses around the world, did not reach several developing countries with the same intensity. Case in point is Brazil, among a few others.

Transplant Business Development Group - November 2008
I’m sure you are all aware that our domestic automotive markets are experiencing significant constriction due to our economic times. One portion of that market that many of us have not served significantly is the transplant / new domestic manufacturers.
