A busy day for SBIR - December 2008
November 12 was a busy SBIR day. In addition to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and NIST official openings, a due date for DoEd, and the official opening day for the National SBIR Conference, that’s the day the DoD announced its first SBIR round of the 2009 fiscal year, in pre-release mode in which interested parties can contact the topic authors for discussion. JIMTOF 2008 shows resilience of Japanese companies - December 2008
The JIMTOF 2008 exhibition (October 30 – November 4) in Tokyo, in spite of the uncertain outlook for the economy, attracted a large audience of 131,000 people. If anything, it showed that Japanese companies are counting on better times in the future and more importantly, that to counter the economic woes, investment in manufacturing automation is the answer. Another reason for an intelligent China policy — A portion of the current U.S. (and world) financial meltdown can be traced to China's economic strategy. In order to maintain the low price of the yuan, China intervened with hundreds of billions of dollars per year in world currency markets to buy Treasury bonds and U.S. dollar instruments. A glimpse of the Russian market - November 2008

The International Manufacturing Technology Show (IMTS) 2008 posted its strongest showing since 2000. Total registration for the six-day event, which ran from Sept. 8-13 at McCormick Place in Chicago, was 92,450. IMTS covered 1,233,878 square feet of exhibit space with 1,803 companies exhibiting. AMT elects new Board of Directors and Officers
October 7, 2008 - AMT elected its 2008-2009 officers and directors today at its 2008 Annual Meeting in Austin, Texas. The Board of Directors of the association, which represents more than 400 American manufacturers of machine tools, manufacturing machinery and related products, elected Ronald F. Schildge, President, Eitel Presses, Inc., Orwigsburg, Pa., as Chairman. He replaces Doug Currie, President & CEO, Erie Press Systems, Erie, Pa. Mr. Currie will now serve the association as an Ex-Officio member of its Board of Directors. Oct 07, 2008
