AMT Industry Chat: News From Washington: Taxes. Regulations. Reshoring.

Mar 18, 2025

Setting tariffs aside, let’s focus on other aspects of President Donald Trump's agenda to create jobs and strengthen U.S. manufacturing.

Congress recently passed a bill funding the government through Sept. 30. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., joined Republicans to prevent a filibuster, allowing the focus to shift to the president’s legislative priorities, including a major tax overhaul. Negotiations on the multitrillion-dollar proposal are ongoing, with significant discussion expected around the federal deficit and debt. The House-passed budget resolution calls for $4 trillion in tax cuts, paired with $2 trillion in spending reductions to avoid scaling back tax cuts.

On the regulatory front, the Trump administration is rolling back burdensome regulations. EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin recently outlined 31 actions that will reduce trillions in regulatory costs and improve the manufacturing environment.

However, addressing the manufacturing workforce skills gap remains a critical issue for companies deciding where to locate production.

The Reshoring Initiative is collecting data on the impact of policies and reshoring efforts. AMT members and IMTS exhibitors are encouraged to complete the USA Reshoring Survey 2024. OEMs, contract manufacturers, and distributors can participate by following the survey link
