Latest GDP Report a Mixed Bag

For the first time in three years, the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis reported that U.S. GDP has contracted, heightening recession fears. However, while the headline figure was negative, consumer spending remained strong, and business investment in equipment grew significantly.

New orders of metalworking machinery totaled $387.3 million in July 2025, a 9.5% decrease from June 2025 but a 20.1% increase from July 2024. Machinery orders placed through July 2025 totaled $2.91 billion, up 14.4% over the first seven months of 2024.
