As spring approaches, I am reminded that our work in the present prepares us not just for the near future, but for new endeavors and circumstances, and for generations of manufacturers to come. Your Events, Exhibitions, and Partnerships department continues to drive the momentum of IMTS spark to broaden opportunities and evolve our community.
From Sept. 21, 2020, to March 15, 2021, we triumphantly executed IMTS spark, a marathon-sized online event. Including pre-event planning, Spark was our focus for nine months. Not only did it expand our skills and stamina, it gave us valuable insight into our audience’s interests, extended our reach to broaden our influence, and deepened our relationships with dozens of industry organizations worldwide – all important aspects for our long-term goals.
IMTS spark exhibitor demos, as well as technical and business sessions, are available on demand through June.

Bonnie Gurney, senior director – strategic partnerships, led the Spark content team and developed many of these partnerships along with Ryan Kelly, general manager of AMT’s San Francisco Tech Lab, who is strengthening AMT’s presence within Silicon Valley’s elite technology community.
New story ideas for articles, graphics, and videos continue to germinate from our Network incubator, which includes editors, writers, and videographers. See them on IMTS.com Insider, IMTS.com/Supply-Chain, and IMTS.com/network.
Next-generation IMTS platform
In June, we will launch a new online program that will feature the most successful aspects of Spark and Network as a permanent, valuable offering on IMTS.com. You can look forward to advanced showrooms for exhibitors and visitors to connect; technical, industry, and business-growth content; and on-demand videos, articles, graphics, and digital events.
We continue to feature collateral on sourcing in the form of on-demand sessions, articles, and graphics. This site will soon feature content based on results from the supply chain online survey that we sent in January. The North American Agile Supply Chain Consortium, of which AMT is a founding member along with Industry Week, the Reshoring Initiative, and American Industrial Acquisition Corp., aims to host a physical space at IMTS 2022 where OEMs, subcontractors, and job shops can connect with each other and explore manufacturing technology solutions for reshoring opportunities.
Despite the cancellation of international shows, Bill Herman, senior director – membership & sales, has spent the past year nurturing relationships with AMT counterparts in nine countries. AMT members are participating in the following in-person shows:
CIMT 2021, April 12-17; China International Machine Tool Show, Beijing, China
IMTEX, June 17-23; Indian Metal-Cutting Machine Tool Exhibition, Bangalore, India
IMTS 2022 is poised to reinvigorate the industry as it has done for nearly a century. The IMTS puzzle masters are creating the 2022 exhibitor floor plans and will release booth assignments soon. Our co-located show, HANNOVER MESSE, is also assigning booth space. IMTS 2022 will encompass an online presence to augment the in-person visitor experience while also building an audience that can only attend digitally.
As we plan these near-future events, we also keep our vision on long-term goals to provide value and expand opportunity for our members and exhibitors.
