International News From the Field: Navigating Southeast Asia's Trade Shows

Apr 14, 2026

The manufacturing landscape in Southeast Asia is poised for a transformative year in 2026. While the China Plus One diversification strategy continues to provide a steady tailwind, the region is rapidly evolving from a cost-competitive production base into a sophisticated hub for high-value industrial technology.

Driven by record-breaking foreign direct investment (FDI) applications – nearly $40 billion in both Thailand and Vietnam in 2025 – the market is shifting decisively toward high-precision machining, semiconductor-related equipment, and next-generation vehicle production. The upcoming exhibitions offer a critical vantage point for AMT – The Association For Manufacturing Technology members to engage with a market that is no longer just expanding but modernizing at an unprecedented pace.

Here is your comprehensive guide to the major industrial exhibitions in the region for 2026, organized by country:

Thailand: The Largest Machine Tool Market in the Region

Intermach & MTA Asia

  • Dates: May 13-16, 2026

  • City: Bangkok

  • Venue: Bangkok International Trade & Exhibition Centre (BITEC)

  • Website: intermachshow.com

  • Major Focus: Advanced machinery, industrial automation, and subcontracting. It is uniquely integrated with MTA Asia (precision engineering), with specialized sections for sheet metal and plastics.

  • Scale: Historically features over 1,500 brands from 45 countries and attracts more than 45,000 trade visitors.

  • Important: This is the first major megashow of the year in Thailand and focuses heavily on the integration of smart manufacturing.

METALEX

  • Dates: November 18-21, 2026

  • City: Bangkok

  • Venue: BITEC

  • Website: metalex.co.th

  • Major Focus: Billed as “the No. 1 Machine Tools & Metalworking Exhibition” in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), Thailand’s METALEX focuses on metalworking innovations, machine tools, and the latest welding technologies. Thailand is the region’s automotive industry hub.

  • Scale: Typically hosts over 2,500 brands and sees upwards of 60,000 attendees, making it the largest event on this list by sheer volume.

  • Author’s Note: This is the best exhibition for understanding the Southeast Asian markets. You can stay in downtown Bangkok and ride the Skytrain directly to the exhibition center. November has the best weather for a weekend break at the country’s beaches or golf courses.

Malaysia: Precision and Automation in the ‘Silicon Valley of the East’

Metaltech & Automex

  • Dates: May 20-23, 2026

  • City: Kuala Lumpur

  • Venue: Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC)

  • Website: metaltech.com.my

  • Major Focus: Metaltech focuses on machine tools and metalworking. The Automex show runs concurrently and is dedicated to robotics and automation.

  • Scale: Expects over 1,500 exhibiting companies and roughly 20,000 trade professionals.

  • Important: This event is crucial for the Malaysian semiconductor equipment and automotive supply chains.

Vietnam: The Highest-Growth Market

MTA Vietnam

  • Dates: July 1-4, 2026

  • City: Ho Chi Minh City

  • Venue: Saigon Exhibition and Convention Centre (SECC)

  • Website: mtavietnam.com

  • Major Focus: Precision engineering, machine tools, and metalworking.

  • Scale: Around 450-500 exhibitors, with a strong international presence, especially German and Japanese pavilions, and more than 15,000 attendees.

  • Author’s Note: This is the best exhibition to learn about Vietnam, the fastest-growing machine tool market in Southeast Asia.

MTA Hanoi

  • Dates: October 13-15, 2026

  • City: Hanoi

  • Venue: Vietnam Exhibition Center (VEC) – a newly constructed venue.

  • Website: mtahanoi.com

  • Major Focus:

Similar to its Ho Chi Minh City counterpart, but it serves the northern Vietnamese industrial clusters.

  • Important:

Northern Vietnam is seeing a massive influx of FDI into electronics manufacturing, making this a high-growth event.

  • Scale:

About 200 exhibitors and over 7,000 attendees.

Indonesia: The Fourth-Largest Population in the World

Manufacturing Indonesia & Machine Tool Indonesia

  • Dates: December 2-5, 2026

  • City: Jakarta

  • Venue: Jakarta International Expo (JIExpo) Kemayoran

  • Website: manufacturingindonesia.com

  • Major Focus:

A major industry event held in Indonesia, a country with huge upside potential due to its population of 288 million. Its machine tool industry is driven by large investments in mining and oil and gas. Further growth will be seen through increased domestic consumption of consumer goods and automotive vehicles. There are no demographic imbalances in this economy.

  • Machine Tool Catalyst:

Accelerated by the national "downstreaming mandate," the industry is pivoting toward high-precision equipment to support domestic mineral processing and Indonesia’s goal of becoming a global EV manufacturing hub.

  • Scale:

Features over 1,300 exhibitors and targets more than 35,000 trade visitors.
